In the most recent football game on October 12, 2024, #23 Illinois defeated Purdue 50-49 in overtime, securing "The Cannon" rivalry trophy. A game-winning sack on a two-point conversion sealed the victory for the Fighting Illini after a back-and-forth contest. Key stats included Luke Altmyer's 379 passing yards and 3 touchdowns for Illinois, and 60 rushing yards and a touchdown for Josh McCray.
